Advantages of Switching from a BCS Work Permit to an EU Blue Card
Russian nationals and other third-country citizens holding a Business Facilitation Scheme (BCS) permit may find substantial benefits by switching to an EU Blue Card:
- Enhanced EU Travel: The Blue Card facilitates easier travel within EU and Schengen countries compared to the Cyprus-only BCS permit.
- Improved Work Mobility: Recognized across the EU, the Blue Card simplifies intra-EU transfers and provides greater employment flexibility.
- Unemployment Protection: Blue Card holders have a grace period to seek new employment in Cyprus (3 months, or 6 months if the Blue Card has been held for more than 2 years).
- Greater Family Benefits: Spouses of Blue Card holders enjoy unrestricted access to employment, including self-employment, compared to limited employment rights under the BCS.
- Formal Skill Recognition: Adherence to EU-wide standards enhances professional recognition and career growth.
While the BCS permit offers faster processing times and flexibility, the EU Blue Card significantly enhances mobility, travel, and long-term career opportunities within the European Union.
